How to stop being a perfectionist

Get sh*t done! Being a perfectionist will stop you from doing the thing.

The ABC Method can help!

I have had this conversation so many times recently, and since I’m truly trying to shed my perfectionism, I thought I’d share the tips and tools I use myself and with hundreds of women I coach around the world.

If you love a plan but don’t know what to do when it goes to shit, you’re not alone! Too many times I’ve had conversations with clients, friends, and family who have said they couldn’t get to the gym on Monday, so they said f*ck it and didn’t go for the rest of the week. That they ate a “bad meal” on Friday night and they’ve ruined their progress, so the rest of the weekend doesn’t count.

I’m sure this all sounds familiar?

What is really happening is that you lack structure. A plan. No, not in the way you think. I’m not talking about a rigid plan, where you have to go to the gym at the same time every day and have to meal prep every Sunday OR ELSE.

While this does work for some, here’s the tool to use if it doesn’t work for you!

The ABC Method gives you the opportunity to schedule everything in your week with flexibility.

Plan A - The ideal version.

What does your best-case day/week look like. Be specific. If everything could go exactly how you want it to, this is your Plan A.

EG: Plan A - Gym session at 4 pm - 5:30pm.

Plan B - The solid backup.

If A isn’t possible, what is a realistic version that still aligns with your goals/priorities? Using plan B to re-arrange.

EG: Plan B - Work meeting ran over so I can’t get to the gym at 4 pm, but Plan B means that I can go to the gym at 4:45pm and still get my session in, it just may end up being a shorter session.

Plan C - The Bare minimum.

When things get in the way, what is the smallest version of the habit you can do? Not giving up, just changing the goalposts for right now.

EG: Plan C - I couldn’t get to the gym but I can get some form of movement in the form of a 30 minute walk when I get back from work. I can rearrange my gym session to another day.
